You all need to stop complaining. He obviously wasn’t going to join Arsenal because they’d never meet his wage demands; the kid wants 5 million quid a year. Tottenham and yes, even my beloved Liverpool, were never in the picture; they couldn’t offer him Champions League football.
That leaves Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.
With regards to City, bearing in mind that the kid wants to play a number 10 role, that leaves him, what, 3rd? 4th? in the City pecking order, behind Silva, Nasri, and sometimes Toure. Young talent shouldn’t waste on the bench.
A similar argument applies to Manchester United; recently, Rooney has been dropping deeper and deeper, almost to a CAM, and with the way Young has been playing something of a playmaker for England in the last friendly, and probably for the first couple games of the Euros, Hazard might not start there either. Throw in that Ferguson is closing in on a deal for Kagawa and Hazard is benchwarming there too.
What about Chelsea? Well if Chelsea want to grow this talent, which the AVB project seems to show they do, they can easily move Mata out wide and play Hazard as a starting CAM; maybe without the number, but he’ll have the position. That’s what Hazard needs; as a young player, he can’t afford to benchwarm or he won’t develop and his talent will go to waste. Chelsea is quite simply the absolute best English destination for him right now, and everyone complaining is simply too biased that Hazard didn’t go to their club.
Did he make a media mess of it? I can’t say he didn’t. Did he piss a lot of people off by leading them on? Probably. But did he make the right choice? Absolutely.
